Trace Evidence Examiner
Mr. Cervenak is a trace evidence examiner with experience in fire debris, footwear, headlamp/filament and physical match exams. He has over 20 years of experience in trace evidence working for a large state laboratory system. The laboratory that he works for receives a large volume of submissions especially in fire debris analysis due to providing service for the metro Detroit area including the city of Detroit. He has completed nearly 5,000 case exams over the course of his career with the same laboratory system. He also routinely attends crime scenes that he processes for trace evidence and footwear/tire impressions.
Mr. Cervenak has a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Science from Michigan State University. Mr. Cervenak has nearly 300 hours of specialized training in the above mentioned trace disciplines. He is an active member of the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS). He maintains continuing education and advancement in his field of expertise, regularly participating in professional meetings, workshops and seminars.
Mr. Cervenak also provides training to other scientists and law enforcement members locally in trace evidence collection. He participates, at least twice a year, in an evidence technician school where law enforcement members are educated in the best practices of footwear photography and casting.
